October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

New-Ribbon-Art

Four years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It changed my life and the lives of my family. It’s been a journey of ups and downs, but it’s my journey and as I see it, this is one of those things I have to own.

October has been a hard month for me to get through. As you can imagine the constant conversation about breast cancer awareness is everywhere; on Facebook/Social Media, at the grocery store, watching TV, on the radio, at the fitness club… you name it… it follows me around. Don’t get me wrong. I know how important breast cancer awareness is. I am grateful for the many lives awareness saves, but as a person battling the disease, it makes it hard for me to be constantly reminded.

This year, however, I’ve decided to meet that challenge head on, and I’ve joined the conversation. I have to admit… it feels good. In previous years I didn’t have the confidence. I wasn’t sure if I was ready this year, but I at least wanted to give it my best.

I’ve been blessed with a high profile platform. My son Tyler Posey is an actor and stars in a hit MTV series called “Teen Wolf.” He has been doing a lot over the years to raise awareness and money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). He has also brought a lot of attention to breast cancer awareness by sharing our story in interviews and on TV shows. He’s really helped me to break out of my shell, and now I’m very comfortable sharing my story and beefing up my fight.

This Thursday, October 23 @ 9pmET I will be participating in a Twitter Party sponsored by Orgullosa, #OrgullosaStrong, and Latina Mom Bloggers who will be sharing breast cancer awareness and early breast cancer detection tips and how to spread the word to all women because together we ARE stronger!  I’m very honored that they asked me to be one of their guests. I will be discussing my own personal experience with breast cancer and the importance of keeping healthy. Also joining us as a guest will be Dr. Luis Villa. He will be providing his medical opinion and help share breast cancer awareness.

Please join Orgullosa, Latina Mom Bloggers, and myself for this very important message on Breast Cancer Awareness. Don’t forget to RSVP and follow @Orgullosa to be eligible to win prizes!
